Bane War Warlord Update
I’ve been writing the second book in the Bane War Series for almost two months now, and I’m about 60% done. Wanted to share a scene with twenty-one year old Dragan fighting a new creature with his twin sister, Syla.
…
“Volkak!” we both say, our eyes wide.
“Run!” Syla jumps over remnants of our structure, sprinting away.
I’m right behind her.
It pounds the ground behind us—I’ve never run so fast in my life. A dense group of trees rises before us. If we can get inside and through, we’ll have cover to help in the fight.
Winter howls against my back, chilling straight into my bones.
“It’s got ice breath!”
“Hurry Dragan!” Syla glances back at me.
We zip into the trees, weaving through thick pines, panting, emerging on the other side, backing away slowly.
It jumps through the trees, flattening some of them. As it lands, snow explodes. It howls, spitting ice.
We dive out of the way, roll, and leap to our feet.
I freeze, shocked at the enormous thing in front of us.
“Knees, Dragan,” Syla whispers.
I bend them.
It circles. With claws like black xanet, and fur more scaled than soft, its eyes pulse red, jewels from Aaru itself. Blue slush drips from its maw as the creature sniffs, savoring the scent of the coming meal.
I’ll be damned if I let it eat my sister. I lunge in front of her and stab my spear at the beast.
…
Since I’m also a twin, I thought giving Dragan a twin sister would make for a compelling story–he’s protective of her, one of the only people on Yava he truly cares about (besides himself).
I had hoped to get the draft done by end of August but September is more realistic. I’m hitting about 1000-2000 words a day on my good days. I’m hoping to increase this as I learn to write better and focus.
Thanks for visiting and best wishes to you and your friends/family.
